Clear procedures and rules provide for transparency in the selection of members of the Supreme Judicial Council as well as of the Prosecutor-General. Equally important, however, are the criteria to ensure that only proven professionals and worthy representatives of the judiciary may be elected to key positions. This was agreed at a meeting today by President Rosen Plevneliev and Prosecutor-General Boris Velchev.

The Presidential institution will provide full support in formulating and implementing the priorities of the judiciary, President Rosen Plevneliev said at a meeting with the President of the Supreme Court of Cassation Lazar Gruev and of the Supreme Administrative Court Georgi Kolev.

Electoral legislation should set stable rules and mechanisms to be the guarantor of democratic elections in Bulgaria, President Rosen Plevneliev said at a round table dedicated to problems and solutions regarding the electoral process in Bulgaria.

European politicians will not produce growth while postponing important structural reforms and appropriate “growth” must be filled out with substance, President Rosen Plevneliev said today. The President today opened at the University of National and World Economy a conference entitled “Preconditions and prospects for sustainable economic growth in Bulgaria and Europe”.
