The Balkans need political will and a united clear vision for security in the region with the understanding that investments in defence are not a cost but a guarantee for peace and stability. This is what President Rumen Radev said at the opening of the 16th annual conference of the chiefs of defence of the Balkan countries, which is being held in Sofia with the participation of Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Greece, the Republic of North Macedonia, Romania, Serbia, Turkiye and Montenegro, as well as the observer countries Slovenia and Croatia.

Montenegro has a key role to play in the European perspective of the Western Balkans; therefore Bulgaria will continue to support the country's efforts and reforms on its way to full membership of the European Union as an example for the whole region.
