President Iliana Iotova Met with Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic

Bulgarian Head of State Iliana Iotova conferred with Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic. The two met during the 62nd Munich Security Conference.

Among the highlights of the session was the upcoming summit of the Three Seas Initiative, hosted this year by Croatia. The aim of the initiative, which was held in Sofia in 2021 under the Bulgarian Presidency, is to deepen cooperation in the energy, transport, and digital sectors between 13 European Union countries.

Iotova and Plenkovic also discussed the growing division between European Union countries and the trend towards a two-speed Europe with a core of larger countries. Both were adamant that the European Union must change in order to respond adequately to contemporary challenges.

The Bulgarian president and the Croatian prime minister also commented on the promises for faster European integration of Ukraine. They shared the position that no precedent should be set in the process of admitting a country to the European Union and that it must fulfill the necessary conditions to become a full member.
