President Iotova Discussed Opportunities for Deepening Cooperation between Bulgaria and Egypt with Egyptian Prime Minister
President Iliana Iotova and Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly discussed opportunities for deepening bilateral cooperation in all areas of mutual interest at a meeting in New York, held as part of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly.
The two leaders emphasised the high level of political contacts between Bulgaria and Egypt. The Head of State reiterated the long-standing invitation to President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi to visit Bulgaria.
Prime Minister Madbouly emphasised Bulgaria’s significant role in relations between the European Union and Egypt.
Iotova highlighted the opportunities for joint projects between Bulgaria and Egypt in the energy sector at a time when fuel supplies are at risk. The President said that raw materials imported from Egypt support Bulgarian defence manufacturing.
The Bulgarian Head of State and the Egyptian Prime Minister also discussed opportunities to boost tourism between the two countries. Both stressed the need to launch a direct Sofia–Cairo flight route.
Many Egyptian citizens have completed higher education in Bulgaria and they form a natural bridge between our two peoples, said Iotova.
The President pointed to Egypt’s important role in resolving conflicts in the Middle East. The two stressed the need to restore shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, as its closure has negative impacts on supplies worldwide.
