Cooperation between Bulgaria and Switzerland in the field of high technology is an example of excellent collaboration. This was stated by Head of State Iliana Iotova at a meeting in New York with her Swiss opposite number Guy Parmelin. Parmelin noted the active development of bilateral cooperation between Bulgaria and the Swiss Confederation, which are celebrating 110 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between them.

 

The President highlighted Bulgaria’s traditions and progress in high technology, emphasising the positive synergy between science and the economy. She mentioned the work of the Institute for Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence and Technologies (INSAIT). Iotova emphasised that Bulgaria is one of six countries selected by the European Commission to build a gigafactory for artificial intelligence. She expressed the hope that funding for this would be included in the European Union’s next Multiannual Financial Framework.

 

Iotova highlighted the positive and sustainable results achieved by the Bulgarian-Swiss cooperation programme.

 

She expressed her hope that the Swiss Confederation’s investment interest in Bulgaria would increase, citing a number of successful projects.

 

Iotova and Parmelin also discussed the war in Ukraine. The President once again emphasised Europe’s lack of involvement in the negotiations to resolve the conflict. Switzerland is a symbol of peace, said the Bulgarian Head of State. The Swiss President presented an upcoming initiative for peace talks to Iotova.
