Iliana Iotova speaks with prominent representatives of American business who are interested in investing in our country

 

The sense of pride in being Bulgarian must not be merely a matter of words. Let us ensure that our country develops in a way that instils a sense of pride in all Bulgarians – those who live in our country and those who live abroad. With these words, Head of State Iliana Iotova addressed our compatriots in New York. Together with representatives of the Bulgarian community, the President marked Bulgaria’s recent Independence Day. Iotova is visiting the US to attend the 81st session of the UN General Assembly.

 

There are many successful people amongst you, with distinguished careers and standing. When one says ‘Bulgarian’, it means a successful person. A person who stands proudly in their place and presents Bulgaria in the best light, emphasised the Head of State.

 

Iotova noted that during her nine years as Vice-President, she had made great efforts to establish links with Bulgarian communities around the world and to work together with them. We are working to ensure that our compatriots feel Bulgarian, feel part of Bulgaria and feel that they are contributing to it, the President emphasised.

 

Iotova thanked those dedicated to the development of Bulgarian Sunday schools, which she described as Bulgaria’s most successful policy for Bulgarians living abroad. The Head of State shared her idea for the establishment of a Bulgarian Cultural Institute and expressed the hope that the current government would recognise this need and that the project would be realised. She stated that, of the 27 Member States of the European Union, only Bulgaria lacks such an institute. Through this institute, we need to get to know you and your achievements, to foster cultural life beyond the confines of the embassies, and to showcase the power of culture and our country’s rich historical heritage, emphasised Iliana Iotova.

 

Earlier, the Head of State held talks with prominent representatives of American business who have expressed an interest in investing in Bulgaria. My country holds the trump card for the development of the South-East European region. Infrastructure and gas corridors, data centres – there is no project that is not linked to Bulgaria, the President emphasised. She highlighted that Bulgaria is now a stable and predictable country offering many investment opportunities.
