Bulgaria is already known in Japan not only for its yogurt and rose oil, but also as a country, that develops high technologies, the President said at a reception at the Embassy of our country in Tokyo

Bulgaria is very well known in Japan and this is one of the main factors for the friendship between the two nations that has been built over decades. President Rumen Radev said today at a reception at the Bulgarian Embassy in Tokyo. The Head of State is on an official visit to Japan and today he had an audience with His Majesty Emperor Naruhito of Japan at the Imperial Palace in the capital of the Asian country.

For years Bulgaria and Japan have been developing relations of sincere friendship, mutual trust and respect, the President said. In his words, the invitation for today's audience with Emperor Naruhito of Japan and the forthcoming signing tomorrow with Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba of a declaration on the establishment of a strategic partnership are a logical consequence of the long-standing friendship, the dynamic sectoral cooperation and the significant potential of the relations between Bulgaria and Japan.

Public figures attended the reception at our embassy in Tokyo, politicians, diplomats, representatives of business, science, education, culture and sports, including the famous Bulgarian sumo player Kaloyan Makhlyanov - Kotooshu, who has been living in Japan for years. The hosts were our Ambassador to the country Marieta Arabadjieva and the Honorary Consul of Bulgaria in Tokyo Kazuo Kawamura.

Bulgaria is already known in Japan not only for its yoghurt and rose oil, but also as a country that develops high technologies, Rumen Radev stressed and recalled that the active cooperation between Bulgaria and Japan began at the Expo 1970 world exhibition in Osaka. Thousands of visitors pass through the Bulgarian pavilion at EXPO 2025 every day and have the opportunity to experience not only Bulgaria's rich culture, history and traditions, but also the modern high-tech image of our country, the Head of State said, highlighting Bulgaria's gratitude to Japan for the long-standing support that has contributed to the excellence our country has achieved in the field of artificial intelligence, information technology and space.
