Dimitar Zhechev (2012)
Dimitar Zhechev was born on 27 July 1981 in the town of Gabrovo. He has produced promising results in the areas of state-of-the-art cryptography and information security. At the time of receiving the award he was an assistant researcher at the laboratory on cryptographic algorithms at Ecole Polytechnique de Laussanne (EPFL), Switzerland. He has a Ph.D. degree in mathematics from the University of California, Berkeley and a bachelor’s degree from Harvard University. He is co-author of two patents in the sphere of cryptography and prize-winner of a number of international awards and scholarships. Dimitar Zhechev is a scientific advisor of Ph.D. students, author of more than 10 scientific publications in journals, main coordinator of one of the main projects under the 7th Framework program of the European Comission in the sphere of information technologies. Dr. Zhechev has organized international conferences and international summer schools on cryptography and information security attended by leading scholars from over 10 countries, organized in Bulgaria in 2008 and 2012.
