At a meeting held with Jean-Claude Mignon, president of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, President Rosen Plevneliv said that the post-monitoring dialogue between PACE and Bulgaria should no longer be applied. Jean-Claude Mignon is visiting Sofia to participate in the 41st session of the Parliamentary Assembly for Black Sea Economic Cooperation.

Under the conditions of crisis the countries from the Black Sea region should seek common ideas for development whereby they would compensate their limited national resources. The real success of the regional cooperation will depend on the ability to formulate a long-term strategy for the future of the Black Sea region. This is what President Rosen Plevneliev said in his speech delivered at the opening ceremony of the 41st meeting of the general assembly of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation.

The oligarchic dependencies may be easily overcome without convening a Great National Assembly. This is what President Rosen Plevneliev told journalists regarding the calls for convening a Great National Assembly. The Head of State called on the people to avoid hasty decisions and emphasized that before doing so a consensus must be reached on what amendments of the constitution should be made. “Currently Bulgarian laws are European and obeying them, observing the rules and ensuring an efficient law-administration system do not depend on a Great National Assembly,” Rosen Plevneliev emphasized.

“Nobody can convince me that elections are something bad, that this most democratic tool of the rule-of-law state may be “harmful.” No, it cannot be harmful – this is the only tool to resolve insoluble conflicts and to unravel the most complicated knot”, the Head of State said in an address to the nation on the current situation and the public discontent in the country.
