Drafting a good strategy for Bulgarians abroad must take into consideration not only central and local institutions but also the voice and needs of those abroad, Vice President Margarita Popova told journalists in Varna. She said that work was continuing at Presidency with the State Agency for Bulgarians Abroad to develop a strategy for Bulgarians abroad. The preparation of the new strategy will allow for better assessment of whether to make changes to current law on Bulgarians abroad or whether to proceed to an entirely new law. The Vice President said that she maintains active contacts with Bulgarian communities abroad to get acquainted with their problems and needs.

President Rosen Plevneliev met UNICEF Regional Director for Central and Eastern Europe and CIS Marie-Pierre Poirier. The main topics of discussion were state policy on child protection and the need for investment in support of early childhood development. Politicians should not just spend public funds but should invest them with a targeted and long-term view on returns, the President said during the meeting.

Economic growth cannot be bought with debt, but must be developed, President Rosen Plevneliev said today in a speech to students at Sofia University. Together with the European Commissioner for International Co-operation, Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Response Kristalina Georgieva, the President opened a public discussion on “Has the European project drained away?”, held on the occasion of May 9, Europe Day.

We have established a new type of policy that excludes running away from responsibility and I hope that more Bulgarian politicians will infected by this example, said President Rosen Plevneliev, who along with Vice President Margarita Popova gave a presentation on the activities of the presidential couple since the inauguration.

For the first time, the President's Administration today opened its doors to citizens, and the first visitors were greeted personally by President Rosen Plevneliev.
Until 4pm today, in front of the Coat of Arms Hall in the Presidency, visitors can see the original battle flags of the Bulgarian Army - from 1881, from the 1920s and 1937. This is the first time that these exhibits are on display at a venue other than the National Museum of Military History. On display in the Coat of Arms Hall are medals and decorations awarded by the Presidency to prominent Bulgarian and foreign public figures and politicians.
