The Presidential institution will continue to be an active partner in addressing important social issues in Bulgaria. We have good contacts with the trade unions and this dialogue will develop in the future. This was said by President Rosen Plevneliev, who met today at 2 Dondoukov Boulevard with the General Secretary of the International Trade Union Confederation, Sharan Burrow. Ms Burrow is visiting Bulgaria for the opening of an international conference entitled "Employment and Income - Dialogue for Growth and a Better Future for Bulgaria”.

The Bulgaria 2020 Strategic Development Programme must be arrived at on the basis of non-partisan consensus and this is a new and very important part of the role of the presidential institution. This view was shared by President Rosen Plevneliev and the President of the Movement for Rights and Freedoms, Ahmed Dogan, meeting at 2 Dondoukov Boulevard as part of the “month of political consultations” initiated by the Head of State.

Education, spirituality, consistent work and a clear vision – these are necessary to ensure a strong future for Bulgaria, President Rosen Plevneliev said in his speech at the official ceremony in the capital on the occasion of Bulgaria’s National Day on March 3. "Today we not only honour the victims, but also we are aware that we must work for the fulfillment of the hopes and towards finding the genuine and true road that modern Bulgaria must take – the road that leads us to dream of a pure and sacred Republic in the interest of its citizens,” the President said.

President Rosen Plevneliev received congratulations from His Beatitude Patriarch Maxim and from Pope Benedict XVI, head of the Roman Catholic Church, on the occasion of Bulgaria’s national holiday, March 3. “As we once again congratulate you on the occasion of your having assumed office as President of the Republic of Bulgaria, in the name of the Holy Synod and in our own name personally, we welcome with you the Fatherland’s National Day, March 3, the Day of Bulgaria’s liberation from Ottoman rule,” Patriarch Maxim said in a letter to the Head of State.

On Bulgaria’s national holiday of March 3, President Rosen Plevneliev received congratulations from heads of state and heads of international organizations, including UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, US President Barack Obama and Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom.
