The establishment of Sofia Tech Park can make Bulgaria a regional leader in innovation

Bulgaria may use the expertise of NASA in the development of Technology Park Sofia. This was said by President Rosen Plevneliev, who visited the NASA Research Centre and Technology Park in Silicon Valley. Through the construction of Sofia Tech Park, Bulgaria can become a regional leader, he said. The operational concept for the project, which should become “truly innovative platform”, would be ready in a few months.

There are funds for the construction of the Sofia innovation centre, but not enough. If the concept is good, there will be partners in the project, President Plevneliev said. Bulgaria has great scientific potential and more than 6000 scientists work at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. But they need a focus in their work, the President said.

Through the Sofia Tech Park project, Bulgaria could restore the leadership it had in the recent past, especially in information technology, President Plevneliev said.

Earlier, the President visited the laboratories of Google in Silicon Valley and spoke to Bulgarians who work in various departments of the company.
