The Talks President Rosen Plevneliev held in Munich were focused on European and Euro-Atlantic Integration

President Rosen Plevneliev held talks with the prime ministers of Montenegro and Georgia during the Security Conference which celebrates its 50th anniversary and which ends today in Munich.

At the meeting held in the capital of Bavaria President Rosen Plevneliev and Milo Dzhukanovich, prime minister of Montenegro, shared the opinion that South-Eastern Europe may develop successfully only on the basis of European values and the region may be stable only if it speeds up its integration. The prime minister of Montenegro voiced his gratitude for Bulgaria’s consistent support for the country’s Euro-Atlantic integration and expressed his hope that Montenegro will receive an invitation to become member of the Alliance at the NATO summit to be held in Great Britain in the autumn.

President Plevneliev said that Bulgaria supports NATO’s policy of “open doors” and hopes that this approach will be adopted at the forthcoming summit. The Head of State highly appreciated the progress made by Montenegro in the process of European integration. In his view, the country’s fast European integration will set a good example for the other countries in the region so that they can pool efforts to conduct irreversible political and economic reforms.

At the end of February the President will make an official visit to Montenegro.

The talks held between President Rosen Plevneliev and Irakli Garibashvili, prime minister of Georgia were focused on Georgia’s Euro-Atlantic integration. The prime minister of Georgia emphasized the Georgian people’s strong support for the country’s strategic orientation – 85 percent of the population supports closer relationships with the EU and 81 percent are positive for Georgia’s future NATO membership.

The Bulgarian Head of State congratulated the prime minister of Georgia on the negotiated Association Agreement and Agreement on establishing a deep and comprehensive free trade zone with the EU, reached during the EU partnership summit held in Vilnius in November 2013. At the meeting it was emphasized that Bulgaria supports the idea for signing the Agreement within the term of office of the current European Commission.
