President Rosen Plevneliev Held a Telephone Talk with President of Greece Prokopis Pavlopulos

In a telephone talk Head of State Rosen Plevneliev congratulated the President of Greece Prokopis Pavlopulos on the occasion of his assuming office and wished him success in performing his highly-responsible duties. During the extremely friendly and sincere talk the two presidents emphasized the excellent state of the bilateral relations and voiced their commitment to strengthening the top-level political dialogue.

The construction of a gas inter-connector between Bulgaria and Greece, which will improve the region’s energy security and will ensure real diversification of the natural gas sources was highlighted during the talk.

The Bulgarian Head of State raised the issue concerning the decision made by Greece to introduce a preventive tax of 26 percent, which will be imposed on physical and legal entities registered in Bulgaria and in other countries with low tax rates. Such a measure will have an extremely negative impact on the economic cooperation and bilateral trade. President Pavlopulos said a solution to the problem is sought in compliance with the principle of the free movement of goods and capitals within the EU.
