Rumen Radev: The European Citizens’ Security Starts with Ensuring the Security of the Bulgarian Borders

The European Citizens’ Security starts with guaranteeing the security of the Bulgarian borders. This is what Head of State Rumen Radev said at a joint briefing with European Parliament President Antonio Tajani. President Radev voiced his conviction that together with the European institutions, the issue regarding the common European security will find its successful and sustainable solution.

“Migration is a challenge that the whole EU faces, not only the individual nation states,” Antonio Tajani said and voiced the European Parliament’s full support for the measures our country took to cope with the migration pressure and provide protection to the refugees.

Antonio Tajani also confirmed the EP’s position that Bulgaria meets all requirements for joining the Schengen area. “However, a decision to this effect should be made only after all member states reach a consensus,” European Parliament President added.

Antonio Tajani also welcomed the election of the many-year Bulgarian MEP Iliana Iotova for Bulgarian Vice-president.

Tomorrow President Rumen Radev will hold talks with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg and will visit the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe, in Mons.
