The President: Bulgaria Is Striving to Enlarge Its Investment Cooperation with Canada in Fields of High Added Value

Bulgaria is striving to further deepen the economic and investment partnership with Canada. The increase in bilateral trade, despite the consequences of the pandemic, is a positive sign in this regard, declared the Head of State Mr. Rumen Radev at a meeting with the Ambassador of Canada Ms. Annick Goulet. In 2021, Bulgaria and Canada celebrate 55 years of the establishment of bilateral diplomatic relations and the shared will of both states for comprehensively developing a friendly dialogue and mutually beneficial cooperation in various fields was expressed during the meeting.

Bulgaria’s ambitions are to attract investors in fields of high added value, especially in information technology and digitalisation of which there are already successful examples in bilateral cooperation with Canada, the President pointed out. Mr. Rumen Radev further added that Bulgaria is increasingly being considered the IT “capital” in Southeast Europe, as well as in terms of start-ups.

Our country’s accession to the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development will be additional motivation for promoting economic trade with Canada, and Bulgaria expects to commence accession talks as soon as possible, the President noted during the meeting.

The steps undertaken so far in strengthening rule of law in Bulgaria, the creation of a predictable business environment and achieving sustainability in these processes were also among the topics discussed during the meeting.
