President Rumen Radev Discusses Problems Facing the EU in Energy, Economy, and Illegal Migration with the President of the European Council

Overcoming the consequences of the energy crisis through common actions within the EU to lower the prices of energy resources, as well as the possibilities of support for the Member States that have filled their gas storage facilities with natural gas at a price much higher than the going one, were among the topics President Rumen Radev raised in a videoconference with the President of the European Council, Charles Michel. The session was part of the preparations for the upcoming European Council meeting, which will be held on 23 and 24 March. This country will be represented by the Bulgarian head of State.

The President expressed Bulgaria's support for the continuation of the transit corridor initiative for grain exports from Ukraine to countries in need. At the same time, he pointed out that measures are needed at European level to prevent this transit from distorting the domestic market in Bulgaria and other countries in the region.

The support that Bulgaria expects from its European partners in curbing illegal migration is not only financial, President Radev further stressed. The head of State highlighted Bulgaria's initiative, together with Europol, to set up a task force in this country with the participation of interested Member States and third partner countries in order to quickly exchange operational information and take coordinated joint measures against illegal migration.
