Vice President: Bulgarian Schools Abroad Preserve the Bulgarian Spirit

Iliana Iotova talks with representatives of the Bulgarian community in Bratislava

Bulgarian schools abroad preserve the Bulgarian spirit. This is what Vice President Iliana Iotova said at a meeting with representatives of the Bulgarian community in Bratislava. Iotova spoke with them at the Bulgarian secondary school "Hristo Botev", which is celebrating its 75th anniversary. Nearly 100 children study at the school, which also has a kindergarten. The students graduate from the 12th grade with two equivalent diplomas - Bulgarian and Slovak. The school is among the most prestigious in Bratislava and attracts many children who do not have Bulgarian roots.

The Vice President thanked the Slovak state for its support for the development of the Bulgarian school and assured of the Bulgarian state's support.

In you we see not only the aspiration to preserve the Bulgarian identity, but also the serious resistance against any attempts to rewrite Bulgarian history, including the distant medieval history, Iliana Iotova addressed the teachers at the school, pointing out the special interpretation of the work of the Holy Brothers Cyril and Methodius. There is a desire to reformat this period of history, in which it is deliberately not mentioned that the Bulgaria saved the disciples of Cyril and Methodius.?hanks to it the Cyrillic alphabet was created, and with it the third Christian civilisation - the Slavic one, the Vice President stressed.

Among the main topics of the conversation was the preservation and increase of lectures on Bulgarian language and culture abroad. Possibilities for future joint projects with Bulgaria in the field of education and culture were discussed.

There are nearly four thousand Bulgarians living in Slovakia, highly educated and respected in Slovak society.
