Rumen Radev: Political Dialogue between Bulgaria and North Macedonia Should Be Conducted at All Levels and Can Achieve Results When Built on Mutual Respect and Implementation of the European Consensus of 2022
The political dialogue between Bulgaria and the Republic of North Macedonia should be conducted at all levels and can achieve results when it is built on mutual respect and implementation of the European consensus of 2022. This is what Head of State Rumen Radev said at a meeting in Sofia with Ljubcho Georgievski, prime minister of our south-western neighbour in the period 1998-2002 and current chairman of the political party VMRO People's Party. The meeting was held on the initiative of Georgievski.
During the talks, Radev expressed hope that the state leadership of North Macedonia would proceed as soon as possible to include the Bulgarians in its constitution, which would also open the door for negotiations for the country's full membership in the European Union. The Head of State also expressed his expectation that the hate speech against Bulgaria and the Bulgarians in North Macedonia itself would be stopped and that the public media and the institutions in our south-western neighbour would lead this process. Georgievski, for his part, stressed that he is in favour of a much more active dialogue in bilateral relations, supports the inclusion of Bulgarians in the constitution of North Macedonia and the guarantee of their rights, which will also open the European perspective of that country and stimulate bilateral economic and informational exchange, tourism and mutual investments for the sake of both countries and the region.
