President Honours Ambassador of the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria with the Order of the Madara Horseman, First Class
In an era of increasing global and regional challenges and a realignment of the geopolitical security architecture, it is important for Bulgaria to strengthen and develop bilateral relations with traditional partners like Algeria. Together we can contribute to peace, stability and prosperity. This is what President Rumen Radev said when he honoured the Ambassador of the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria to Bulgaria, HE Messaoud Mehila, with the Order of the Madara Horseman, First Degree, for his services to the development of bilateral relations. Representatives of the diplomatic corps in Bulgaria also attended the ceremony.
Bulgaria highly values the relations between our two countries and the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria is one of our most important partners in the North African region and among the Arab countries, Radev said in his speech at the ceremony. Ties between the two countries have deep historical roots and have been actively developing since Algeria gained independence in 1962. The Head of State added that the assistance provided by Bulgaria at a turning point in Algeria's history laid the solid foundations of the friendship between the two countries, which continues to develop today. There are prospects for its development in trade and economic cooperation, as well as in education, culture and tourism.
The President highlighted Ambassador Mehila's commitment and contribution to the preservation and promotion of political, economic and cultural ties between Bulgaria and Algeria. For his part, the Algerian Ambassador thanked for the award. The diplomat stressed the importance of the historical ties between Bulgaria and Algeria and expressed optimism for the further advancement of bilateral relations.
