Rumen Radev: Iraq Can Play a Much Bigger Role in Europe's Energy Diversification

Iraq can play a much greater role in the supply of energy resources and in the energy diversification of Europe, including through green energy transmission projects. This is what President Rumen Radev said at a meeting with the President of the Autonomous Region of Iraqi Kurdistan (AIRK) Nechirvan Barzani. The two sides held talks on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference, and during the meeting they reaffirmed the common aspiration to deepen economic cooperation and mutual trade. Rumen Radev expressed hope that the Kirkuk-Ceyhan oil pipeline would be restored as soon as possible, opening the prospect of direct supplies of crude oil from Iraq to Europe.

President Radev expressed his appreciation for the contribution of AIRC to the promotion of stability and development in Iraq and in the Middle East region. The strengthening of state institutions is key in this process, the President further stressed, and expressed hope for the soon formation of a regional government in AIRC, which will further boost the development of relations with Bulgaria.

During the meeting, the significant role of AIRC in countering terrorism in the Middle East region was also highlighted.
