Improving Connectivity between Bulgaria and Romania as a Factor for Promoting Economic Exchanges in the Region Was Discussed by President Rumen Radev and Acting President of Romania Ilie Bolojan

President Rumen Radev discussed improving connectivity between Bulgaria and Romania as a factor promoting economic and investment exchange and tourism in the region with the Acting President of Romania Ilie Bolojan in Warsaw. The two held talks on the sidelines of the 10th Three Seas Initiative Summit. During the meeting, the Bulgarian Head of State stressed that Bulgaria and Romania are developing their relations based on good-neighbourliness and partnership, there is a positive trend in tourism, and bilateral trade exceeds EUR 7 billion annually.

Radev highlighted the connectivity between Bulgaria and Romania across the Danube as a key challenge for the further deepening of economic ties between the two countries. He noted that the existing bridges at Vidin-Calafat and Ruse-Giurgiu are not sufficient in view of the ever-increasing transport traffic, the transfer of goods and the willingness of businesses in the region to implement joint projects. Building new supply chains to increase the stability of our region and compensate for the supply chains disrupted by Russia's war on Ukraine also requires joint action by the countries of South-East Europe and targeted financial support from the EU, the two presidents said.

The two also discussed the possibility of strengthening the bilateral partnership in energy and underlined the importance of the Vertical Gas Corridor for energy diversification in South-East Europe.
