Rumen Radev: Like All Bulgarians, I believe that with Joint Efforts We Can Change Bulgaria

We were together for nine years and kept our most important vow to work in the interests of Bulgarian citizens, President Iliana Iotova told Rumen Radev after taking office as head of state.

Today was my last day as president, but also the first day as a citizen who, along with all Bulgarians, believes that with joint efforts we can change Bulgaria, protect democracy, uphold the law, accelerate economic development, so that each of us feels protected, free and a worthy citizen of a European Bulgaria. This was stated by Rumen Radev, who was seen off by citizens in front of the presidential institution today, after announcing his resignation from the post of president in an address to the people on January 19.

With a decision of the Constitutional Court today, Rumen Radev's powers were terminated early, and Iliana Iotova took office as head of state. At the main entrance of the institution, President Iotova saw off Rumen Radev, who was greeted by citizens in the square. "I am glad that nine years ago the Bulgarians voted for me to be president and their support continues," Rumen Radev told the media, adding that the wave cannot be stopped. "Because we are many, because we are together and because our cause is common. It is Bulgaria," said Rumen Radev.

"I am grateful that we were together for nine years and kept our most important vow, which we made in 2016 - to work only in the interest of Bulgarian citizens with responsibility to the Bulgarian Constitution," said President Iliana Iotova, adding that she will continue to work with the same strength, courage and intelligence for our Bulgaria. Rumen Radev thanked her for her professionalism, dedication and teamwork in the presidency in the interest of Bulgarian citizens.
