President Iliana Iotova Spoke with Her Greek Counterpart Konstantinos Tasoulas
We are confident that the new government in Bulgaria will continue the good cooperation between Greece and Bulgaria and build upon it. This was stated by Greek President Konstantinos Tasoulas to President Iliana Iotova. The two spoke on the sidelines of the 8th European Political Community Summit, which is taking place in the Armenian capital of Yerevan.
Among the main topics of discussion was the diversification of energy sources in the context of global tensions and military conflicts. Iotova expressed hope that the Vertical Gas Corridor, which will ensure supplies of natural gas from various sources to the countries of Southeast, Eastern, and Central Europe, will be one of the most successful European projects of the past decades. Bulgaria will complete the section of the project on its territory by the fall of 2026.
The Greek President emphasised that the Vertical Gas Corridor has not only energy and economic significance but also political significance. The initiative will contribute to both regional and European energy stability.
The head of state thanked the Greek government for its assistance during the height of the conflict in the Middle East by providing missile defence for Bulgaria.
We speak the same language with Greece, within the European Union as well. We defend the same positions on the Multiannual Financial Framework regarding the new philosophy that will largely reshape the Common Agricultural Policy and the Cohesion Policy, Iotova concluded.
