Speech by President Rosen Plevneliev at the inauguration ceremony of the new members of the Supreme Judicial Council

Madam Speaker of the National Assembly
Ladies and gentlemen, members of the newly elected SJC

Today, the entire Bulgarian state is here for you to voice its confidence and to wish you luck. From now on, you will make important decisions. My wish is that the decisions that you make are not for Brussels or because of party allegiances but for the sake of justice. For the sake of justice in Bulgaria.

From now on your tasks will not only be initiatives regarding reform that has been delayed for years in Bulgaria. The recipe for success lies in the simple word, “results”. Results for the benefit of society. Results in the interest of the state. Results for the reputation of the institution that you represent. Because democracy in Bulgaria is a function of your labour. Because the way you make decisions, the values that you hold, form the value system of the nation.

Democracy, functioning institutions, justice. I wish you to be the drivers of your decisions. My wish is that our country, in the coming years, through a truly collective effort by all of us, work for a prosperous and developed nation.

Believe me, every day, everywhere I go in the world I see prospects and people say, “Yes, but it is very important to be sure. We want to have guarantees.” This is ensured not by the words of one or another politician, but by working institutions.

I wish you a strong start. That is very important with such an unprecedented procedure. A very strong demand for transparency is raised and in place at a moment very important for the country.

From now on, through your actions, through you values, you will help all of us. The cause is a modern, dignified, prosperous Bulgaria.
